The Tag Steve McQueen Monaco is my all time favourite Tag Heuer watch. But then I would say that wouldn’t I! It’s true though, the Tag Steve McQueen Monaco is a beautiful, distinctive and classic designer watch and there’s a bit of history behind both the Tag Heuer Monaco range and the Tag Steve McQueen watch itself.
In 1969 in honour of the Monaco Grand Prix, Tag Heuer launched a chronograph with a distinctive square case design called the Monaco. Then later in 1970, the Tag Heuer Monaco became popular after Steve McQueen wore a distinctive blue coloured version of the chronograph in the hit motor racing film “Le Mans”.
The new Tag Heuer Steve McQueen Monaco the CW2113 FC6183 marks the 40th anniversary of the original watch and is almost identical to the original worn by Steve McQueen. It’s a classic watch on the outside with the latest in watch technology on the inside. The CW2113.FC6183 is a chronograph which utilises Tag Heuer’s Calibre 12 automatic movement and is water resistant up to 30 metres. The Tag Steve McQueen Monaco also has a stainless steel 40.4 mm case, distinctive blue dial, polished nickel plated hour and minute hands and stylish blue alligator leather strap. It’s a beautiful watch and top of my shopping list!

Quite what the difference is between the CAW2111.FC6183 and the CW2113.FC6183 is I really don’t know. This is the same watch with a different serial number! Maybe Tag Heuer have a different numbering system between the US and the UK - or maybe this is a later model. Certainly for UK watch store Goldsmiths to be carrying the classic Steve McQueen Monaco it must be the latest version available in the UK.
The Monaco’s specification is the same too. The Tag Heuer Steve McQueen ‘Gulf Edition’ is for serious Tag Heuer watch collectors. It’s a limited edition Steve McQueen Monaco and is now being carried in the UK by watch retailer Goldsmiths. It’s a lovely looking watch manufactured to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the original 1969 Monaco Grand Prix.
The Gulf Edition has an orange and blue striped dial and features the original Gulf Oil logo. It also has curved sapphire crystal glass, stainless steel case, dark grey alligator strap with folding buckle and has safety push buttons.
